Works of Art

For this last project, we wanted to invent an interactive game based on works of art exhibited in three famous French museums. The French pupils had to choose a work of art, borrow one element of it and then work on this element to create something new. They also had to write 5 clues in English about the initial painting or about the artist. This game will be online so our Spanish partners have to guess the original works of art and the artists. But we forgot to stress to the students to realize the lowest fills than they could. So the webmaster had to decrease the pictures.

As we had problems with the computer network at school, the first part of the project which should have taken one hour unfortunately took more than that! Our pupils (in groups of two) visited the museums’ websites in the I.T. room and filled in a questionnaire that was meant to help them discover the museums and choose a painting in each one. They then chose their favourite painting among the three - the most surprising, the most famous, the funniest …

We later realized that it would have been interesting at this stage to devote time to do research into the works of art and the artists, it would have helped them with the writing of the clues and relieved the English teacher of having to rewrite nearly all of them!

Having extracted a significant element, they took it as a starting point and began to imagine a new setting around it. Two hours were enough for this part of the project. They resorted to various techniques: drawing, collage, photographs, animation, image processing software … As they had already studied the notion of borrowing in Art, they immediately understood what we had in mind and really showed much imagination and creativity. We are quite proud of what they have managed to do!
