English activities
September - October 2008:
Pupils create Our Calendar of Special Days – each child involved in the project writes down her/his birthday and then answers this question: What special day(s) would you like to celebrate, and why? (for instance, Earth Day the 22nd of April, or Europe Day the 9th of May...).
November - December 2008:
Every 2 weeks or so children read a statement from the child-friendly version of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and decide in pairs or small groups whether it is true or false according to children’s rights – whether it is a right on its own or a violation of a right.
Then they create posters: Children's Rights
January - February 2009:
Children create and play a game.
March - April 2009:
Children’s Rights and Responsibilities – for instance, there is the right to education and the responsibility to learn... Pupils make PowerPoint presentations illustrating these, making use of the labels that they learnt to create during the previous months.
May - June 2009:
Something about media education, which aims at making the children aware of the importance and power of the media – making them aware of what they see and how that may affect them. We should develop our pupils’ critical skills and understanding of this powerful tool. |
